I am in tears as I write this....A few years ago as my Standard bank award I made a work called Iindlulamthi ' The ones who are taller than the trees . This was because of the constant images I saw in the streets of Makhanda . The small cold hands holding the cup for you to put money after seeing a prestigious or not so prestigious show. In a venue
You yourself are cold having worn layers of clothing knowing you'll be back long after dark but full of theatre and beer and good expensive food.You would then drop the few coins from the change from the night onto those cups of the many cold feet,and hands and smoke coming from their mouths.
