Introducing our esteemed Drama Adjudicator for the Garden Route Eisteddfod, Berdene Burger!!
Berdene Burger is a SAFTA award-winning producer with degrees in psychology, criminology, research, English literature, and creative writing.
She began her career in the entertainment industry as a radio presenter before transitioning to film and television in 2012, when she joined the creative team at Meerfout Films.
Berdene produced two short films for kykNET’s Silwerskermfees, Die Lang Kat and Almon - Henry, featuring the talented Nataniël.
These projects paved the way for seven seasons of Nataniël’s popular lifestyle series, which she produced and was filmed on location in France.
As a director, Berdene helmed three seasons of the reality show Boer Soek ’n Vrou, as well as several episodes of season three of Die Byl.
She recently produced the eight-part drama series Juffrou X and completed seasons five and six of Die Byl as co-writer and series director.
Her other writing endeavours include the one-woman theatre piece Mooi Annie, the first Afrikaans play to debut in Hong Kong, and the teen romantic comedy Jou Romeo.
In addition to her production and writing work, Berdene reviewed films in a weekly segment on Die Groot Ontbyt.
Her company, Meerfout Films, has won numerous awards, including a South African Film and Television Award for Best Lifestyle Series, multiple ATKV Mediaveertjies, and several other film festival accolades.
