George Friday Night Market is part of a project by a committee of the CBD Forum (51+ members, all owners of or representers of property in the Central Business District), a registered group with the municipality. Among many other things we are also concerned that there is not enough healthy/safe activities for families and youth in the CBD as well as help to the smaller entrepreneur. Committee: B

Planning the following:
1. First Market to take place on 4 November. (Some stall holders would be given permission to start early but all stalls must be ready and open from 17h30 till 21h00. Tables are available but must be booked in advance. Phase 1 includes 45 stall stands, 4 entertainment sites (street artists etc.) and a stage for musicians.
2. A Playroom/Care room for children. Will open on 4 November. Eventually we would like this to be open at least 4 days a week. We will be starting this project but are looking for a person/institution/church or group who is interested in managing it - entrepreneur. Volunteers who would like to help with start-up or long term are welcome to contact us. Aim: To provide some entertainment and safe care of children per hour or per part of a day to parents who would like to go shopping, dining etc.
3. A Youth Lounge. A safe place for youth to get together, sales of drinks and small meals etc., a stage for young artists, karaoke, talks, presentations, projects, skills teaching etc., few games, chill couches and tables. Any person interested in working with the youth can contact us. We invite the youth to come and relax with a cup of coffee or cold drink, chill and enjoy some music, make suggestions, take part in projects, voice your opinion in discussions, and don’t miss out on competitions to win some prizes.
4. Youth Concerts. Building owners in the CBD will provide one premise once a month. We are looking for youth bands and single artists to perform, including Christian music. Please feel free to contact me at any time on any of the above. Also let me know if you know of people who are interested in stalls or working with the youth. With so many people struggling, needing an extra income or looking for a job opportunity, the above could be a solution for some. On-site meetings for interested parties will be announced regularly on the wall. Next on-site meeting: Thursday 3 November at 10h00am. Place: Market Lane, George (behind Strydom Gallery). Auditions and interviews for music and other entertainment will take place once a month at Fusion Lounge in Meade str.
