𝙋𝙉𝘼 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙬 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙉𝙠𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙞 𝙎𝙞𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖 builds this splash from something you might not expect: curved lines, carefully placed shadows and tiny hits of bright colour.

1️⃣ Start with yellow pastel in the background
2️⃣ Build the water surface with curved horizontal lines
3️⃣ Layer green, pink, yellow, orange
4️⃣ Create the ripple rings with curved oval shapes
5️⃣ Darken the centre where the drop hits the water
6️⃣ Build the splash upwards and shape the main droplet
7️⃣ Add darker shadows around the splash and droplet
8️⃣ Bring in white and light blue highlights for that wet, reflective look
9️⃣ Blend the ripples, keeping some curved highlights visible
🔟 Add the smaller falling droplet and finish with your deepest shadows and brightest highlights

💡 The interesting part? The water effect comes from contrast. Those really dark shadows sitting next to bright highlights are what makes a flat pastel drawing look glossy and dimensional.

Which part would you tackle first: the ripples or that suspended droplet? 👇

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 … but the BACK tells you how neatly it was stitched. 🧵

𝙋𝙉𝘼 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙬 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙀𝙯𝙢𝙚 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣 takes us through a Cross Stitch Kit from that very first stitch to a beautifully finished hoop, with a few clever tricks for keeping everything neat along the way.

1️⃣ Fold one strand of embroidery floss in half and thread your needle
2️⃣ Use the loop in your floss to secure your first stitch neatly
3️⃣ Work across the row, keeping each stitch slanting in the same direction
4️⃣ Return across the row to complete your crosses
5️⃣ Follow the pattern by counting the coloured blocks
6️⃣ Check the back as you go. Your stitches should form neat, straight lines
7️⃣ Secure your floss around an existing stitch and trim
8️⃣ Iron gently from the back with a warm iron, without steam
9️⃣ Place your finished piece into the wooden hoop
🔟 Gather the excess fabric at the back with cotton and finish with a circle of cardstock
💡 Ezme’s tip: Keep those diagonal stitches travelling in the same direction. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference to the finished piece.

Now tell us … do you check the back of your stitching as you go? 👇
