Welcome to the skillboratory library where knowledge and talent is exchanged.
Take a seat and become part of the chain of knowledge. What link will you become to the person sitting next to you? What skills do you know that you can teach another and which talents are you super curious to learn more about? The installation has setup some guidelines but allows space to explore beyond that between conversation partners.

Each of us has skills they’re good at and skills they really want to learn. What if you place two strangers together and let them bond over those: you get a skilboratory. A place to connect, share and learn together. Who knows what’ll follow: a new idea, collaboration, friendship, hobbyproject or professional workgig. This craftswap location becomes the play area of the participants. The ultimate SKILLSHARING playground.

Skillboratory is a concept & projectbaby that originated from mind, made for with the skillsharing help of various friends (, , .moon_and_skye & Saood). Now coming to Afrikaburn 2024 in an even more exciting upgraded version. .dude.collective been working hard to create even better prompts with the help of &

Dude, Where's My Cart? - There it is!

One morning at burn, I (Maya) had woken early, not many were around. I stood there, time of no essence, just taking it all in. The sun slowly rising above its mountain peaks. Thinking in utter disbelief: it's here, magic is still real.

It took me a while to share about this adventure, ifykyk.. it may have been one of my most challenging. See a few months before this moment, I honestly thought I would never find the Dude Cart. After a dark night in the middle of February, I woke up and thought to myself: F**k it, I've done this before, against all the odds. Let's just do that again, all it takes is believing.

Deep Trust

Knowing the sun always rises again..
It was still an extremely bumpy ride but then when I woke that one morning at burn, I saw that sun peak between that cart. And I knew, holding onto my belief in magic, wasn't in vain. Nothing goes without a challenge, but in the end it's always worth not giving up. Everything in life is momentary, the good - the bad, hold on to that good extra long. Let the rest go.

A massive thank you, to everyone who started to believe in this too. To those who worked on this with me, even if only for a few brief moments. It has always been a healing thing to create, to keep going forward. Thank you to my beloved Dude Crew for all the wild adventures, for the shared cries and joy. This all meant more to me than you know.

Who remembers our Par La Sol artwork from 2022? Any cool stories to share with us about the “beach of the universe”?

Par La Sol is an Afrikaburn 2022 art installation in the Tankwa Karoo, South Africa. It consists of a range of chairs & parasols spread out introspectively, in duo or collective to provide whatever social setting you’re craving when you stumble upon the project on the Playa. Our Art Lead Maya had inspiration during Afrikaburn 2019 when she found most artworks something to look at but not always to truly interact with. As she's fascinated by the seemingly obvious things happening in the space surrounding us, she noticed herself being in 3 different social settings during burn: introspective, in need for a deep 1-1 conversation or wandering around in group.
Thus she poured those exact configurations into 3 different settings: Par La Sol became an interactive artwork. Beyond our art lead trying out a little experiment on how people use a space, the people surprised her when the chairs moved around. It became the spark for 'Dude, where's my cart?': the people had spoken, moveable seats should be a thing!

Dude! Sweet, hello it's Maya, your main pilot on this crazy adventure still wondering "Dude, Where's My Cart?". Anyway my brain must've been left in that other AfrikaBurn space, I swear I saw several aliens out there.. Was it all a dream? Was the Cart even real? Or was I playing you all along for a little joke 🫢 (uhm hi AfrikaBurn Rangers, yes I was 200% for real and we did in fact loose this thing that one night we needed to switch on the lights 😝)

Anyway it was pretty hard to tell as I have been deliberately secretive for months about how this looked. And boy oh boy what a crazy wild ride this project has been. I've sort of landed back on Planet Earth and I'm ready to tell the full story. Firstly I want to go back to where and how it all started.. "Concept Phase".

You see every Afrikaburn, I listen, I observe: what were my experiences, what stories are recurring. Most importantly: when I experiment with creating/building spaces for people to interact with, how do they use, is it what I imagined or something completely new. I look for clues to what the people want.

Last year I created a bunch of chairs & parasols, placed them in 3 distinct social settings and went to peak every day (quietly). My observations went as follows: they moved the chairs after a day, I moved them back, they moved them around again, I gave in and let them be. People want moveable art.
Add being in a super cool camp and feeling so much love for all the community vibes. And a little flavor of "I need to venture out more and have more fun adventures"...

So voila I present you: "a cart" - it's shade, with seats, on a moveable thing! The people of Afrikaburn have spoken!

Add a mix of Pauli's scepticism onto the mix when I told him my idea: "Maya, my dear, you'll loose this thing all the time.. People will steal it".
To which I jokingly added: "lol it's gonna be like that movie: "Dude, Where's My Car”. And from that moment, I knew, this cart is gonna be a LOT of fun!
