Official Statement: Earthdance Cape Town Music Festival Shutdown.

We extend our gratitude to each and every one of you who gathered to celebrate Earthdance Cape Town, contributing to its 26-year legacy. Your unwavering support has touched our hearts deeply.

Thank you for your patience with the delay in providing you with further updates, as originally promised on Sunday.

For over two decades, Earthdance Cape Town has proudly stood as one of Cape Town's flagship festivals, consistently delivering an exceptional production while contributing to charitable causes and fostering connections with Earthdance festivals worldwide.

In the lead-up to this year's event, we diligently monitored the weather conditions (which were constantly changing) and conducted frequent wind readings during the course of the event. All necessary permissions were secured and approved.

Our event was well prepared to withstand rain and wind as it has done so at previous events. However, on the night of the festival, we faced unforeseen serious safety challenges with unexpected high-speed winds and gusts, reaching speeds of approximately 65-75 kilometres per hour. We also did not receive any official weather warning from the South African Bureau or relevant risk management authorities.

At approximately 23:40, our dedicated risk management team advised us to halt the event due to the dangerous high winds, which posed a significant safety risk to all attendees. In close collaboration with the disaster and risk management authorities of the City of Cape Town and the South African Weather Bureau, we collectively made the difficult decision to cancel the event. Such a decision, especially for an event of this magnitude, involves intricate logistical and safety considerations, especially when made during the late hours of the night.

The safety and well-being of our valued staff and cherished attendees are paramount to us. We share in your disappointment over the necessity of this cancellation and the impact it had on our shared experience.

For those who held Sunday tickets, we will ensure prompt refunds. To express our gratitude for your understanding, all ticket holders will have access to a unique discounted ticket for next year’s event. We understand that expenses were incurred in anticipation of a full weekend with us, and we wish to extend our sincere appreciation for your dedication.

We are resolute in our commitment to return next year, stronger and more determined than ever to provide you with the Earthdance Cape Town experience you know and love. We look forward to welcoming you back, uniting in music, dance, and community.
