This is what , TLC member has been getting up to🎨✨✨

One of the fun things I enjoy about being a mentor in the Buffalo City Metro and Amathole East district is taking young people to visit the Ann Bryant Art Gallery in East London.

These are the little kids of one of the primary schools in the township of Mdantsane in East London.

They were very excited to have the opportunity to see an art gallery for the very first time in their lives.

The children were drawn towards the tapestry work that was done by the Kieskamma Trust, which is a representation of the tree of life, life in the rural areas, the Xhosa traditional ceremony of " umgidi" when a boy returns from an initiation as a man, "amagqirha" which are traditional/ spiritual doctors and so much more.

One of the fun things I enjoy about being a mentor in the Buffalo City Metro and Amathole East district is taking young people to visit the Ann Bryant Art Gallery in East London.

These are the little kids of one of the primary schools in the township of Mdantsane in East London.

They were very excited to have the opportunity to see an art gallery for the first time in their lives.

They were intrigued by this big house that holds all these pictures that seem to have been painted by someone.

They asked alot of questions about where the pictures came from and who lived in the house.

I was glad to answer all of their questions and being of assistance to the teachers of the school.

They said they couldn't wait to get home and tell their parents what they saw and experienced.

What I made sure to instill in their little precious minds was that" art is everywhere, they should not be afraid to use their imagination, find what makes them happy and have fun with it"'🎨✨✨✨

I was inspired by the roscharsch test and the concept of Free association and how what someone perceives in free organic shapes can be a key to their hidden subconscious thoughts!
I am really excited by philosophy and psychology, and how we try to make sense of our human existence by ascribing objects and situations meaning/ clarification. We try to use symbols to represent things we cannot logically comprehend, so the creative mind takes over and imagination and logic are in active play with one another.

This is a work in progress, a mirrored photograph painted and now going on its own path, trying to feel into the energy of the painting I am creating. Finally creating with strong intention and intuition.

Some brand spanking new painting explorations by Resident TLC artist !

Acessing the divine energy flow of the universe. With this style of painting I enter a meditative state of FLOW, I don't think of anything except for watching the flow of energy that escapes the tip of my paintbrush. Even though these painting may not be conceptually sound the feeling is definitely evident. This is a new chapter in my creative practice and I am excited to approach my works in a similar fashion in the future.

I collected most of the ashes and a part of charred board which was left over from the fire to create a new functional installation which will be displayed at the end of the year. Until then the installation will serve as a personal altar of contemplation. I collected pieces of charcoal with which I draw and made paint pigment. The charcoal will be used for the illustrations in my Grimoire which is dedicated to this project, entailing the secret spells and rituals I have made for myself through this project, including a detailed outline of my personal experience of the entire project.
By honoring the debris of the artwork in this way I bring its life cycle to a renewed level, the remaining Mana (Energy/power from natural objects) is preserved in jars and eternalised in drawings in the grimoire.

BIRTH LIFE DEATH:
Constant Metamorphosis
healing art ritual.
We are all part of the rule of three cycle; Birth, Life & Death. When my grandmother died end April 2020 I became deeply aware of the ephemerality of life. The isolation brought awareness of the transience of life during the pandemic. I wanted to create a ritual to aid my grieving which was compounded by the current state of the world
Forced change in our daily rituals come gnawing uncertainty which led to my journey to internalise and consider the impact of the circumstances. I studied Green witchcraft and spirituality that initiated the exploration of rituals as highly conceptual. Rituals invoke the imagination attaching meaning to specific actions and objects. Both conceptual art and rituals are a medium of adding meaning to the mundane by active intention.

A project pioneered by TLC artist and co-founder and her university colleagues :

Have you heard about the Instagram page?
This page serves as a positive contemplative space, a to discuss issues regarding displacement and identity politics. Socio-political issues and environmental issues go hand in hand which is why we are relating our focus of the displacement of indigenous South African plant species to the displacement of indigenous people in South Africa due to the country’s violent history.
While we don’t offer any specific answers, this is an invitation to start a conversation that is more vital than ever to discuss and address openly.
Through several online interactions we wish to highlight the dynamic diversity of indigenous plants in the localised area of the Western Cape.
Check it out and participate in planting positive seeds of change by liking and sharing the page. By engaging in our online interactions you can stand a chance to WIN 1 out of 3 original artworks created by the art students behind this project.
Please check out our page feed posts for more information on the concept behind this project and more info on the other interaction you can engage with !
Our Highlight reel is packed with even more detailed information.

Behind the scenes of painting practice. “At the moment I am trying to bring together the emotional landscape of the body and emotions depicted as landscapes as I have painted them in the past. Constructing and deconstructing what I paint into a grid helps me think through the disjointed way humans engage with nature as if we are separate from it.” @ Observatory, Western Cape, South Africa

In this time of isolation we can take the forced stillness as an opportunity to reevaluate and reflect. These consideration can then inform work that speaks with meaning to the time we are in. TLC invites you to reflect on this question with us. Send us an image of a practice or ritual you are using to ground yourself in the present moment and we’ll share it on our story Want to know more about TLC swing by (when they reopen) or drop us a DM

Details of latest series, “I saw nothing for days”.

“What constitutes ‘home’? Is there something like ‘a home’, which implies that the qualities of ‘home’ lie in a place, and is thus subjected to questions of ‘where’? Or is it possible that ‘home’ resides entirely as feeling in the mind? Does ‘home’ occupy a space in the body? And how can the understanding of ‘home’ be triggered to resonate in others through art, as to foster a sense of belonging, homecoming and community?”. These questions are of interest in a time where an interesting split in our collective human unconscious is becoming more and more apparent as issues around global climate change are pressing us to consider our responsibility for the environment: Earth as our home versus us creating homes on Earth...”-

Sinead Mason has a fascination with all that is elusive and murky because she believes that nothing
is singular in the world. All people, situations and objects have a tendency to expand into plurality. Her photos are a portal into the intangible world of the unconscious. The boundary
between what is reality and what is simply the machinations of the mind is blurred. Sinead creates a world where the best dreams and the worst fears have already happened. She
photographs the quiet moments in-between these moments and the residue afterwards. Evocative rather than illustrative, her images ask the viewer to bring their own subjectivity to the table to interpret her enigmatic images. makes use of found materials in many of her artworks. She paints on glass, uses boxes to create installations and is always in search of expressing through the memory of mediums. Re-usable art is also a re-occurring element in her work, like making bags of her artworks add to the element of flow and movement present in her work. Norman Jackson writes that “our problem is not that creativity is absent, but that it is omnipresent and that it is taken for granted.” This is what Olivia finds frustrating within the school system: the devaluing of creative practice and the non-acknowledgement of humans’ inherent ability to be creative. Her personal art practice, as well as her involvement in initiatives such as , aims to claim creativity back for all.
