BArtPerceptions I investigate the isiZulu masculine identity from the beginning of The South African Gold Rush of 1886 -.

Motivated by my traditional isiZulu background, in particular it's shunning of individuality and how masculinity links to being performed for.

Dusted off my political hat, it's hard not to when navigating spaces that are a constant reminder of where we come from, and what those before me had to endure with nothing to show for their secrefices at end it all.

A bit of personalities I've admired throughout my "awakening". The late Tony Oladipo Allen (1940 - 2020, Lagos, Nigeria) from the famous, pioneering Africa 70.

Responsible for injecting the afro, within the sound we know as Afrobeat. Spent 11 years as part of Fela Kuti's Africa 70 as master drummer and musical director.
