Some of the best w**d control isn't a chemical - it's a plant that simply doesn't leave room for anything else to grow.
Aggressive, low-maintenance groundcovers crowd out w**ds naturally, reduce water loss, and cut down on the need for harsh herbicides. A few South African favourites:
Sour fig (Carpobrotus edulis) - fast-spreading, drought-tolerant, and excellent on slopes and banks
Vygies (Lampranthus/Delosperma species) - colourful, hardy succulents that form a dense w**d-smothering mat
Wild garlic (Tulbaghia violacea) - tough, low-maintenance, and naturally pest-resistant
Bulbine (Bulbine frutescens) - indigenous, water-wise, and quick to establish
The right groundcover means a lower-maintenance garden and a lighter environmental footprint. Go ahead and try it for yourself.
