This is world breastfeeding week and we thought we would take a moment to highlight 3 benefits of breastfeeding:

1. Immune protection for baby - Breast milk contains antibodies (especially in colostrum) that help protect infants from infections, and is linked to lower rates of ear infections, respiratory illness, and diarrhea in the first year.
2. Optimal nutrition, tailored to the baby - Composition adjusts over time (and even within a feed) to match the baby’s changing needs, providing the right balance of fat, protein, and carbohydrates for growth and brain development.
3. Long-term health benefits for mother - Breastfeeding is associated with reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer, faster postpartum uterine recovery, and can support postpartum weight regulation.

Dr Clio Bax

Dr Bax has a special interest in the management of Diabetes and Hypertension and has accreditation from the Centre of Diabetes and Endocrinology as well as a postgraduate diploma in Diabetes Management from the University of South Wales. However, she enjoys seeing patients of all ages and enjoys the variety that family practice offers. She loves getting to know her patients and their families!
