On π‘»π’‰π’–π’“π’”π’…π’‚π’š, 4 𝑱𝒖𝒏𝒆, please join us for Printmaking Demonstrations with Nkosana Nhlapho and Tshogofatso Nkhumeleng from APS - a chance to experience printmaking processes first‑hand and gain insight into the techniques that have shaped generations of artists.

✨ Opening night at the KZNSA Gallery was a celebration of legacy, learning and community.

On Thursday, 28 May, we welcomed guests to the launch of 35 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 π‘¨π’“π’•π’Šπ’”π’• 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒇: 𝑨 π’π’†π’ˆπ’‚π’„π’š π’Šπ’ π‘·π’“π’Šπ’π’•π’Žπ’‚π’Œπ’Šπ’π’ˆ by A Artist Proof Studio

The evening began with words from KZNSA Executive Director Russel Hlongwane, reflecting on the importance of hosting organisations like APS in Durban’s cultural landscape.

Kim Berman, co-founder of APS, spoke about the studio’s founding vision - to create access to artistic training and opportunity - and paid tribute to the late Nhlanhla Xaba, whose contribution and commitment helped shape that vision into reality.

Nathi Simelane, APS Chief Operations Officer, shared the rich history of APS and highlighted its notable alumni who continue to shape the arts industry.

This exhibition brings together works from APS alumni across generations, alongside linocut portraits by current students - a powerful dialogue between past and present. Artist Proof Studio at 35 reminds us that legacy is alive, carried forward through shared knowledge, ongoing learning and creative practice.

The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Please be reminded that you are warmly invited to the opening of 35 Years of Artist Proof Studio: A Legacy in Printmaking at opening at the KZNSA Gallery this coming Thursday, 28 May 2026. This is a landmark exhibition that celebrates one of South Africa’s most influential centres of printmaking, honouring three and a half decades of artistic excellence, collaboration, and community impact.

Artist Proof Studio (APS) was founded in 1991 and has become a leading force in fine art printmaking, recognised for its commitment to training, mentorship, and creative exchange. Over the years, APS has supported generations of artists whose work has been exhibited at major art fairs, represented in prominent galleries, and developed in collaboration with some of the country’s most celebrated practitioners.

Please join Artist Proof Studio Kim Berman and Nathi Simalane for an insightful walkabout on the 29 May through the exhibition 35 Years of Artist Proof Studio: A Legacy in Printmaking. This guided tour will offer a rare opportunity to hear directly from the visionaries from APS, as they reflect on the studio’s history, its impact on South African printmaking, and the stories embedded within the works on display as an attendee you will gain a deeper understanding of the artistic processes, collaborations, and community‑centred ethos that have shaped APS over the past three decades. Kim and Nathi will also be available after the walkabout for any questions relating to the exhibition and APS’s ongoing work.
