ARTS & CULTURE ORGANISATIONS NEED ANSWERS
Arts and culture NPOs across eThekwini are raising serious concerns about delays in the eThekwini Municipality Grant-in-Aid Fund.
Applications closed on 28 February 2026, with implementation scheduled for March–June. Shortlisted organisations were interviewed, contracts were signed on 4 June, and invoices and revised dates were submitted.
Yet, months later, some organisations have been paid while others are still waiting, with no clear explanation or timeline from the Finance Department.
The delays have forced organisations to repeatedly postpone festivals and projects, directly affecting artists, practitioners, service providers, partners and audiences.
With elections approaching and municipal venue availability becoming increasingly uncertain, organisations fear further delays could jeopardise already-approved programmes.
We are calling on the media to investigate and help us get answers.
Where is the funding?
What is causing the delays?
And when will outstanding organisations be paid?
Arts and culture organisations deserve transparency, accountability and clear communication.
