The brief for Westown was for a dynamic work with relief that would organically "grow" across the walls in the main square, and also play with light, shadow and reflections. The response was an ivy inspired series of steel elements mounted at angles that travel onto adjacent walls - merging with, and responding to, weather conditions, the position of the sun and the effects of lighting.

I used cut-out shapes and reflective surfaces to create a play of light and shadow that evolves throughout the day.

The Public Art Programme at Westown Square represents an ambitious and deeply considered integration of art, architecture, and place identity by Westown’s developers, Fundamentum.
Curated by Angela Shaw, Executive Director of the KwaZulu-Natal Society of the Arts (KZNSA Gallery), the initiative demonstrates how public art can shape atmosphere, guide movement, reflect local heritage and express the cultural narratives of Ntshongweni.
Through a multi-phased curatorial process, rooted in research, local engagement and careful site-mapping, the programme transforms the retail precinct into an immersive cultural landscape.
