I buried myself…
beneath a thousand smiles.

Placed a reed across my lips—
I’m okay.

And slowly…
I watched the visitors
step away.

Each day the sun shone grey.
Seasons passed,
but it was just… another day.

So slowly,
I erased myself
from all the noise.

Now—
no laughter.
No footsteps.

Only silence.

But still…
still I smile,
and say—
I am okay.

Monday morning, the 17th October I heard the news of two young ladies from my community that were killed and bodies dragged and dumped on top of each other and left in an abandoned parking lot. These two young ladies were 30 years old and 17 years old but as i become aware of this tragedy, I hear of so many other woman r***d and murdered within the boundaries of my country and the reports that we hear of is only a small percentage of those that go unheard and sometimes unreported. A 2 year old child r***d and murdered this past weekend as well, taken from her father's home as the mother went to fetch water. WHEN WILL THIS STOP? WILL THIS EVER STOP?
