🎭💥 SCHLENTER & CHAFF are bringing their case to Observatory 💥🎭

“Awe my bru… need a lawyer?” 👀

From Vigilante Theatre, this bold satirical comedy drops you straight into the chaos of Joburg South, where the lawyers are criminals defending criminals 😭⚖️

Now, these notorious legal minds are stepping into Cape Town… and you’re invited to witness the case unfold.

Meet Brad Schlenter and Brian Chaff: cousins, godbrothers, and masters of loopholes. Raised by gangsters and always ready to get their clients off the hook… until they’re faced with their most complicated case yet: an innocent man.

Expect fast paced physical comedy, sharp satire, and a story that’s as ridiculous as it is real 💥

Directed by Martin Grendele and performed by Oliver Ché & Themba Dlamini, this 2 hander is high energy, unapologetic, and straight out of Jozi.

🎭✨ Scene in the City: A Double Bill ✨🎭

Two powerful works. One unforgettable night.

Gauteng (for Ebenheizer) and Ndijongiwe / I’m Being Looked come together in a striking double bill of interdisciplinary theatre and live art. Where movement, music, and storytelling collide 💥

Gauteng (for Ebenheizer), written by Melusi Molefe and directed by Qondiswa James, reimagines South Africa’s cities as a fractured family. Through spoken word, live music, and physical performance, it captures the chaos, humour, and heartbreak of urban life. A love letter and an elegy to the cities we call home.

Ndijongiwe / I’m Being Looked, created by Mthuthuzeli ‘Blaze’ Zimba, shifts the lens to the body. Interrogating Black masculinity, space, and surveillance through a bold, immersive live art experience.

Together, these works create a layered, urgent reflection on identity, memory, and contemporary South Africa 🇿🇦

🎶 Featuring live music by Asher Gamedze & Masello Motana

🎭✨ Ballingskap | Elubhacweni✨🎭

A powerful new work presented by AFDA Cape Town 💫

What does it mean to be in exile… from a place, from a language, from yourself?

Ballingskap | Elubhacweni a striking physical theatre and drama piece that explores exile in all its forms. Through movement, text, and the elements of earth, air, fire, and water, the production unpacks both the history of exile in South Africa and the ways it still lives within us today.

Created by Khanya Ngcuka and Kayla van der Merwe, this work is raw, embodied, and deeply reflective, a space where stories collide, questions surface, and audiences are invited to feel, think, and experience.

This is young artists stepping into their craft, pushing boundaries, and creating something bold together 💥

✨ Something honest is coming to Theatre Arts… ✨

Don’t Ask Me Who I Am is a powerful double bill featuring To Reach Midnight and Nxesi Ngxesi, part of our Young Professionals Season 💫

This collaboration between Stellenbosch University and the University of Cape Town brings together two bold works that sit with identity, memory, and the quiet questions we carry about who we are.

To Reach Midnight, created by Andrea Fraser, is a physical theatre piece that explores anxiety through movement, music, and spoken word. Performed by Wyatt Afrika, Busi Mcoyana, and Unam Sota, the work moves through vulnerability, tension, and the different ways we navigate what lives inside us.

Nxesi Ngxesi, written and directed by Onele Ncedana with co direction by Siphesihle Nkantini, is a bilingual coming of age story that moves between isiXhosa and English. It follows a journey of cultural reconnection, where language, memory, and identity begin to find their way back to each other.

“A phantom limb of culture, she encounters the pull of the Umgquba, yearning for a connection, calling her home. She wants to go back home but the path has been obscured by the fog of Westernization. Ufuna ukombela but her tongue is not familiar with isingqi sakwa Ntu, She can only sing.”

Featuring performances by Sisipho Wisani and Thina Afrika, with stage management by Yolanda Ntanyana.

Two distinct voices. One shared search.

✨ Something special is unfolding at Theatre Arts… ✨

A Glimpse Of Light is a double bill bringing together powerful new works from the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Cape Town as part of our Young Professionals Season 💫

Now in its fourth year, this season continues to create space for graduating artists to step into the industry, share their voices, and begin shaping the future of theatre.

Glimpse, directed by Sonja Louw, is a striking physical theatre work that reflects on our relationship with the natural world. Rooted in environmental urgency and grounded in South African landscapes, it invites us to witness, reflect, and awaken.

iNkanyezi, choreographed by Bongiwe Mkhumbeni, is a tender and moving duet that journeys through memory, faith, and the quiet moments where light finds us. A reminder that home is not always a place, but something we carry within ourselves.

Two works. Two worlds. One shared moment of reflection, honesty, and light.

✨ Something bold and brilliantly unfiltered is coming to Theatre Arts…

PerspekTIEF is a satirical comedy cabaret written, directed and performed entirely by Gerard van Rooyen, and yes, he truly does it all 🎭⚡

This is an Afrikaans show that plays with perspective, pokes fun at the world we live in, and leans fully into humour, parody and a little bit of chaos. Gerard takes audiences on a fast moving, witty ride where nothing is too serious and everything is open to being turned on its head

With influences from cabaret and vaudeville, expect sharp observations, musical moments, and a playful energy that flips between the ridiculous and the reflective

Come laugh, think, and see the world a little differently 🌀
