"To me this painting depicts a feeling than anything else.
A feeling of companionship. A sense of ageing, and with that life experience and wisdom.

A sense of having experienced so much, that a very deep depth of soul has formed. Yet this is not only felt and experienced, but shared. There is a strong sense of sharing in this image.

And maybe it’s the very fact that life is shared that gives it more value, meaning, or joy?"

Laurel Holmes reflects on 'Mapping a Season IV' saying;

"The work was largely playing around with colours - a deep red-pink of a protea juxtaposed with grey. The grey comes from feeling that much of the diversity of the natural world is rapidly disappearing, it's almost the ‘ashes’ of a specie.

The layering is a metaphor for the complexity of anything – the natural world, people, human nature, our current lives; the understanding that truth is not simple or singular."
