Congratulations to Martine Robinson .art for winning the John Waterman award at the SBA Plantae exhibition 2026. We are so proud of her work. She is an artist who is dedicated to finding unusual plants in the field to paint. She works for helping with threatened conservation items. She works consistently and is the vice chair of BAASA. She has works in the Grootbos Florilegium and the James & Shirley Sherwood Botanical Art Collection thank you Martine for showing an international audience what we are made of. So proud!! 😊

We are so proud of the BAASA Cape members who have work chosen for the upcoming SBA Online exhibition. Conophytums by flying the flag of critically endangered plants from poaching; .illustrations exquisite pen and ink drawing owned by Ellerman house; .art privately owned Aponogeton distachyos and Amyrillis belladonna owned by Ellerman house; extraordinary depiction of the Sausage tree, and pineapple and waterblommetjie bold portraits of useful plants. I also heard had her pencil Cycad accepted. Feeling proud of the talent we have here!!

Many long standing BAASA members some new ones have their work in the world’s youngest florilegium the James & Shirley Sherwood Botanical Art Collection. Come and see this collection of exquisite paintings at Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden from Saturday. Many have never been illustrated before and many are endangered. There is also a lovely market on Saturday so make a morning of it.
