Fragile, expressive, and unapologetically honest.

Githan Coopoo’s work reclaims clay as a medium of storytelling - one that speaks to love, loss, and the beauty of becoming. Through playful forms and powerful text, the exhibition opens up space for reflection, connection, and joy.

Come spend time with a practice that reshapes how we see art, material, and meaning.

Before recognition, there was resistance.

This exhibition explores Irma Stern’s early years in Berlin - a time of creative discovery shaped by war, displacement, and the search for artistic freedom. Her work, once rejected, would go on to redefine modern art in South Africa.

Step into the beginning of her story.

These sculptural figures invite us to consider power, innocence, identity, and the human condition through Murray’s distinctive visual language.

Playful, unexpected, and full of character.

“The Last Villas” brings together the final series of sculptures by Edoardo Villa - lighter in spirit, yet just as considered. These steel forms shift between birds, guardians, and imagined creatures, inviting you to look closer and decide what you see.

There’s a sense of freedom in these works — a reminder that even at the end of a long career, curiosity can remain.

In “Wild Life”, Brett Murray uses animals as stand-ins for human behaviour reflecting power, absurdity, and the tensions of the present. Spanning four decades, the exhibition brings together works that are sharp, humorous, and deeply observant.

Look closer. There’s always more beneath the surface.

Playful, bright and full of imagination.

“The Last Villas” presents the final series of sculptures created by Edoardo Villa before his passing in 2011. Smaller and lighter in spirit than his monumental works, these steel forms resemble birds, guardians and whimsical creatures — almost like three-dimensional emojis.

Installed against the curves of the garden and architecture, they invite you to walk around them, discovering new silhouettes from every angle.

Experience these joyful sculptures at Norval Foundation’s Sculpture Garden.

Vases. Handbags. Talismans.
Githan Coopoo’s sculptures blur fashion, craft and fine art — challenging hierarchies and reclaiming space for q***r presence within history.

His layered inscriptions — poetic, playful, sometimes biting — invite viewers to feel “in on the joke,” while confronting deeper questions of identity, vulnerability and belonging.

This exhibition honours a powerful legacy and continues the conversations he began.
