Today, we honour the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of the youth of 1976, whose voices helped shape the South Africa we know today.
Because of them, we can take up space, share our voices, and celebrate our individuality in ways that were once unimaginable.
As artists, dancers, and creatives from diverse backgrounds, identities, and abilities, we continue to create new possibilities for those who will follow.

Happy Youth Day.

May we continue to move, create, and dream boldly. ❤️

Last night our Artistic Director Nadine Mckenzie Appollis joined Angelika Schroeder for a thoughtful conversation about dance, creativity, and the journey of artistic practice.

Bringing together artists and creatives, the conversation created a space to connect, exchange ideas, and reflect on the diverse experiences and creative practices that shape contemporary dance.

𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧-𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩🇳🇦

Our workshop offered a glimpse into our integrated approach to dance while opening a space for meaningful artistic exchange.

Together with OYO Trust , artists, dancers, and creatives in Namibia, we explored Sign-Dance ,a distinctive dance form developed by Unmute Dance Theatre that brings South African Sign Language and movement together to create a powerful form of expression , storytelling , and connection.

The experience was filled with discovery, collaboration, and shared creativity, reminding us of the power of the arts to build connection across languages, cultures, and experiences.

‘Belong’, a dance performance in three acts, will be staged at the National Theatre of Namibia on 13 June at 6pm. Featuring renown dance company from South Africa Unmute Dance Theatre , as well as the OYO dance troupe and guests.

OYO will take this chance to premiere its first inclusive piece, ‘Hear me!

‘Belong’ is the first season of Movement, International Dance Festival Namibia, supported by the French Embassy in Namibia, the FNCC, OYO and the NTN.

This morning our Artistic Director, joined a live television interview to share more about Unmute’s work and our participation in the Movement International Dance Festival Namibia.

The conversation highlighted the power of inclusive arts, cultural exchange, and the exciting collaborations taking place through workshops and creative sessions with local dancers and Oyo /Embetja Yehinga Organisation.

We’re proud to share our vision for inclusive arts with new audiences and to be part of conversations that celebrate creativity, accessibility, and representation.
