Rowan Walpole Art

Rowan Walpole Art Watercolour on paper and oil on canvas. Mild mannered office worker by day, celebrated globe trotting artist by night. Unfortunately I can't do that.

Okay, it's not that glamorous but a guy can dream, right? I know that this is where I'm supposed to let you know that I burst forth from the womb with a pencil in hand, drawing before I could walk. I recall that destruction played a much greater role in my childhood adventures than creativity did, unless creative destruction counts? At school my art homework was rapidly done in the fifteen minute

registration period that we had on a Monday morning. Mr Shaw had to excuse himself from the room to recover his composure after Big Bird from Sesame Street snuck into my "O" level exam piece. I did enjoy art at school but could never admit it, being a snotty teenager. That spark of enjoyment remained and after a completely random incident inspired me to paint again, I haven't been able to stop. After defiling stacks of paper, spending the GDP of a small island nation on an ever growing list of supplies, learning from some great teachers and making a few gallery owners weep, the images that I end up with pretty much match the original plan! I'm a huge fan of texture and colour. Oil paint is capable of delivering buckets of both and there are cool ways to get clean, transparent washes of watercolour onto the paper. I enjoy being alive and feel that we all take it far too seriously, given that we're not going to get out of it alive. I find subjects that reflect that, so you're safe from morbid and disturbing art here!
