Artvark Gallery Contemporary Art Gallery & Restaurant. The idea behind Artvark began in 1991 in Johannesburg. Everyone who visits Artvark leaves inspired and uplifted.

The core of the “company” was the handmade cutlery initiated by Theresa Jo - an artist with a Fine Art degree majoring in jewellery at the University of Stellenbosch and CP Wessels, a designer, previously a Film maker and student of Architecture at the University of Natal. Relocating to Kalk Bay took place in 1998 where Artvark Gallery and a manufacturing studio in Retreat were established. Artva

rk Gallery is classic and contemporary with a keen eye for folk art, specializing in paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, textiles, jewellery, craft and unique custom made steel works. It has been a long time favourite of Cape Town art lovers and tourists visiting Kalk Bay. Artvark Gallery contributes towards the development, investment and management of creative and artistic resources for the benefit of the whole community and its visitors. The works showcased in the gallery are an excellent representation of the art and culture of a diversified South Africa which speaks to the promotion of classic and contemporary Southern African art. This ethos encourages the development of a visual literacy that all can discover, explore amd build upon. Aside from being an internationally acclaimed photographer, Inge Norum is also a world renowned and very talented djembe player!

After his walkabout on Sunday, he joined the legendary Dizu Plaatjies of Amapondo fame, bringing together an extraordinary group of musicians in a once-off percussive performance.

The night was pure magic.

Last night INGE NORUM led a walkabout for his solo photographic exhibition THE FOUR KINGS which runs until the 27th September.

Inge returned hundreds of times through, rain, sun, fog, snow and changing light to photograph a monumental 4 trunked oak tree called Kongeeike (King Oak) , thought to be around 600 years old, outside Maridalen in Norway.
This patient pursuit logged over 300 hours on site, revealing this incredible tree's natural rythmns - simultaneously a witness and a mirror to endurance and time. The tree remains still while world changes around it.
Among Inge's 9 works shown is an immersive Monumental Print spanning 4.2 x 2.7 meters

TONIGHT AT 6PM - we invite you to join INGE NORUM on a walkabout for his solo photographic exhibition, THE FOUR KINGS, currently on at Artvark Gallery.

Norum is the only Norwegian photographer partaking in the Cape Town Photography Festival 2026.

The Four Kings is a photographic project centred on a single four-trunked oak tree near Oslo, in Norway, estimated to be around 600 years old. Norum returned to this same tree hundreds of times over the course of a year.

On show, among Inge's accomplished body of work, is a Monumental Print spanning 2, 75 x 4,2 meters.

THE FOUR KINGS runs until the 27th September.

Inge happens also to be a world renowned djembe player.
After his walkabout he will be joining South African legend Dizu Plaatjies, and other guest musicians - Jamie Jupiter, Derek Craig, Carsten Rasch and Manan in a once -off live music performance lasting about an hour.

And so it begins! The Cape Town Photography Festival 2026: TRUTH, opened last night at Artvark Gallery with Norwegian photographer Inge Norum's first South African solo Four Kings.

Norwegian photographer Inge Norum's first South African solo exhibition, THE FOUR KINGS opens tonight at 6PM as part of the Cape Town Photography Festival 2026. The theme this year is TRUTH.

Over the course of a year, Norum returned nearly a hundred times to photograph Kongeeika - a monumental, four trunk oak tree estimated to be around 600 years old - in Maridalen, Norway.
The Festival Director Heidi Erdmann will be giving the opening speech.

Inge will lead a WALKABOUT on Sunday the 6th September at 6pm followed by a live music performance.
Inge is also a world renowned djembe player and will be performing a once-off gig with guest musicians - including the legendary Dizu Plaatjies, Jamie Jupiter, Carsten Rasch, Derek Craig and Manan.

We are excited be exhibiting the work of two photographers this year for The CapeTown Photography Festival.

The theme this year is TRUTH.

INGE NORUM - THE FOUR KINGS.
The festival will officially open with THE FOUR KINGS by the Norwegian photographer, INGE NORUM.

Norum will give a walkabout, and
participate in a music performance on Sunday 6th September at the gallery at 18:00.

The Four Kings is a photographic project documenting a single oak tree with four trunks in Kongeeikene. Estimated to be between 500 and 600 years old, the tree was photographed over the course of a year. The tree remains still as its surroundings shift. In this, it becomes both witness and mirror.
Inge is also one of two photographers participating in the Sigma Mentorship.

MARGUERITE OELOFSE'S exhibition - 'OUR HEART' will open the following evening for First Thursday, the 3rd September at 18:00.
Her Walkabout and talk, followed by a live music performance will take place on Sunday the 13th at 12:00 midday.

Marguerite Oelofse, more than 25 years received a heart transplant in Cape Town at just 17 years old. She was given a second life under the care of Dr Susan Vosloo, Africa’s first female heart surgeon. This body of work is expressed through both portraiture and still life, and is a meditation on survival, gratitude, and becoming – told through her lens as both photographer and subject.
Her series reflects what it means to live after being given life.
'Our Heart', was photographed at the site of the accident where her donor lost her life. An ostrich collided with the vehicle, and the injuries she sustained were fatal.
