In 1994, Jason Weaver was just a teenager when he recorded the singing voice of young Simba in The Lion King.

Disney reportedly offered him $2 million upfront.

Most people would have signed immediately.

Instead, his mother encouraged him to take a smaller upfront payment plus royalties.

That decision changed everything.

Thirty years later, he is still receiving checks from the film’s soundtrack. While a one-time $2M payday would have been nice, the long-term earnings from royalties have continued to grow as the movie became one of the most successful animated films of all time.

It’s a powerful reminder that ownership and backend participation can outperform quick cash.

Short-term money feels good.

Long-term money builds wealth.

Smart move.
