Stravinsky's masterpiece in which the story of 3 puppets is brought to life by a magician at a fair in St Petersburg is as vividly magical in the concert hall as it is on the ballet stage. The work requires a full range of virtuosity from all musicians to depict Petrushka's love, jealousy and ultimate tragic end with the composer using all orchestral colours to full effect.
