Blue Bowl Pottery

Blue Bowl Pottery I make bowls for pleasure and love porcelain, finished with sgraffito designs. My designs are inspired by the African Ndoro symbol and the ocean.

I started pottery lessons whilst living in Zimbabwe, with a well known local potter named Pam Sheppard. I moved to Cape Town in 2015 and started lessons with Lorette Espi of Noordhoek Potteries, also a well known local potter. Pottery was put on the back burner while I studied at UNISA for an NDAcc. I picked it up again in 2015 once we moved into our new home and was privileged to have a dedicated

studio space. And that is where this story begins. Having a fabulous work space and supportive partner and friends has been wonderful. I am participating in The Potters' Market, a bi-annual event in Cape Town, which will be a first and hopefully fruitful experience.

Come support your local potters this Saturday. Biggest ceramics market in Africa.

Our stand for the 2020 Potters' Market. Skillfully set up by my partner, Sharon van Schalkwyk at 05h30. The wind howled the whole day but despite this and a certain pandemic, Capetonians came out in their droves to support their local crafters. We had excellent sales and loved the day. Not a soul seen without a mask.

It's been a while! Here's some larger than usual pieces about to go in for bisque firing at Anthony Shapiro studio. Not sure if the mug handles will survive... broke all the rules in making and attaching them. 🤞
