A massive thank you to the legendary South African sculptor and painter, Lionel Smit Studio for raising over R400,000 through his inspiring Art for Healing project!

Your generous donation will help transform the Short Stay Ward at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

The Short Stay Ward cares for 5000 children per year, especially little ones with upper respiratory tract infections and diarrhoeal diseases.

It's the last two days to register for Art for Healing.

It is a special project with the Children’s Hospital Trust, whereby proceeds will go towards upgrading the Short Stay Ward at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital.

We will be doing a limited release of new paintings, sculptures and paperwork.

Only registered individuals will gain access. Registration closes on 3 October 2025.

It is a special project with the Children’s Hospital Trust, whereby proceeds will go towards upgrading the Short Stay Ward at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital.

This stunning portrait by Lionel Smit will be part of Strauss's “Seeing Ourselves: South African Portraits Past and Present” exhibition, which will be held at the historic Oude Leeskamer in Stellenbosch from October 11 to 19.

“Seeing Ourselves” explores the evolving nature of portraiture in South Africa, tracing visual representations of identity, selfhood, and community from the early 20th century to the present day. The exhibition places historic works by modernist and early contemporary South African artists in conversation with contemporary voices, creating a dynamic visual dialogue about who we are, how we see ourselves, and how we are seen.
