We are holding auditions for our October 2025 production of God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, directed by Bernie Jacobs.

The play: A sharply funny, award-winning comedy about two couples whose polite meeting to discuss a children's argument spirals entertainingly out of control. Four adult roles — two men, two women.

Rehearsals run Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons from 7 July. Production is at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg, 11–25 October 2025.
All experience levels welcome. Come and read for us.

35 years ago, CDS (then known as the Sons of England Dramatic Society) brought Peter Blackmore's beloved comedy Miranda to the Masque Theatre South Africa in August 1989, under the direction of Sol Rodsell. 🎭

Before rehearsals begin, we wanted to introduce the person who'll be shaping this production from the ground up.

Bernie Jacobs has been a cornerstone of Cape Town's amateur theatre scene for years, as a performer, a teacher, and a director. Her production of Peter Shaffer's Equus won the CATA Award for Most Innovative Production. Her portrayal of Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's Master Class won Best Actress. She knows how to find the human truth in difficult material.

Which makes her a natural choice to direct God of Carnage.

In her own words: the play sits in a sweet spot: genuinely funny, but with something underneath the laughter that stays with you. The comedy of watching people work very hard to appear reasonable, and then watching that effort quietly collapse.

We think that sounds like an excellent evening.
