The Shell Singer will be performed at Theatre Arts in December. This is an “alternative” one woman theatre piece that indeed touches raw nerves.
The core of “The Shell Singer” explodes from a scream: “Where are you?!” The sound and words breaks through in various forms to layer and explain the psychotic disarray of a broken being.
The contents and deliverance of the piece touches nerves that reside very deep in the subconscious and make them
quiver in response. Sound and lighting accompany the production and enhances its cruel bitterness and deep sadness.

Costuming for DAUGHTER is both simple and intricate. Simple in that it is a simplistic tunic of a singular tone with not much feature, but in this, that is exactly the point. The focus is rather on the symbolism and storytelling that revolves around the colourful scarf and the character. As the actress adopted and developed the character, so the tunic's features diminished in ornateness and developed into the singular tone simplistic garment that doesn't obstruct the story being told.

Zoë de Witt – resident make-up artist

It is a nice change to paint a different kind of picture with make-up than what I was used to…
Usually people want to look beautiful and refined. Well, some of us have our own version of what is beautiful but the usual norm for most is the illusion that they are younger, nothing sags and of course God forbid they have freckles…which is why doing the make-up for these productions is so great!
I get to make people look like what they don’t want you to see….the truth behind closed doors…
TIRED, SAD, TORMENTEDand downright DEPRESSED! The version they don’t dare to show the outside world…the truth. Make-up is always a powerful way to express how we feel on the inside and is, of course, also amplified by the wonderful talents and skills of the actress! I cannot wait to see the acting behind what Marianna has asked me to create on the face this time!
