“This is how I wear my crown.”

Meet Vuyo Oyiya, the woman whose iconic African headwraps inspired a three-meter sculpture V&A Waterfront . For Vuyo, the headwrap is more than fabric—it’s a daily ritual to center herself and set intention for the day. Her headwraps are a sacred practice, the crown of courage, dignity, and heritage.

Her collaboration with and Kunye Colab transforms a personal expression into a public celebration of African identity and female empowerment.

For a deep dive into this powerful collaboration, see link in bio and feature.

“The sculpture serves as a poignant reminder of our innate divinity. The Crown Chakra is the seat of our soul, the centre of our spiritual selves, and the source of our connection to the divine. As women, we embody the art of kindness, and we are the embodiment of just beautiful souls in human form. This sculpture serves as a powerful reminder to embrace our spiritual essence, to rise above earthly limitations, and to recognize the divine power that resides within each of us. Let us celebrate not only the beauty and strength that we possess as individuals but also the unity and sisterhood that connect us all. Together, we can overcome adversity, tap into the boundless love and wisdom of the universe, and radiate the light of our divine selves to illuminate the world. The time has come for us to stand tall, together, to wear our crowns with pride, and to share our unique gifts with the world.” - The Crown Chakra Artist : Vuyo Oyiya – Kunye Collab

WOMINT: The Arts of Women’s Intelligence Curated || Honouring the Quintessence of Korean Tradition and Cultural Legacy: 일무 || One Dance

일무 || One Dance is a delicate dialogue between tradition and innovation, a luminous bridge uniting the ancient with the modern, crafted with effortless elegance. It is a harmonious collection of movements and melodies that reflect Korea’s poetic grace and sacred culture and traditional spirit.

At the very heart of 일무 || One Dance lies Chunaengmu, a majestic court dance born during King Sunjo’s reign in the Joseon Dynasty. Inspired by the ethereal song of an oriole amid whispering willows, Chunaengmu embodies Korea’s poetic soul, its delicate gestures and serene poise echoing the silent poetry of nature itself.

Over generation, Chunaengmu has evolved, its classical choreography seamlessly blending with contemporary melodies in The Variation of Chunaengmu. Bold formations unfurl like blossoming branches, while flowing movements ripple with effortless grace, forging a luminous dialogue between tradition and modernity.

As we celebrate WOMINT: The Arts of Women’s Intelligence, we honour the women of 일무 || One Dance whose grace shines as the silent poetry of a nation’s sacred spirit. May their luminous artistry continue to inspire us all to cherish, preserve and honour Korea’s profound cultural legacy —encouraging us to safeguard and celebrate our own cultural heritage.

From 21 to 24 August 2025, in Seoul, experience the enchantment of 일무 || One Dance set to the evocative melodies of Jaeduk Kim and be transported to a realm where heritage and artistry intertwine.

Produced by the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Seoul: . Tickets are now available —an open invitation to witness Korea’s soul alive in motion. For more info, visit .

OPENING THIS THURSDAY: ‘9 Hopkins’ by This new series of expansive, mixed-media paintings is at once an exploration of gestural mark-making and an engagement with the urban fabric of Salt River, Cape Town. Bineshtarigh’s works find their conceptual origins in the unintentional marks observed on the walls of a panel-beating workshop in his studio complex. The exhibition stands as a memorialisation of unconscious mark-making as an indicator of human presence and a mapping of memory and being.

Please join us for the opening at 6pm on Thursday if you are in Cape Town.

‘9 Hopkins’ runs concurrently with ‘Of Space and Time’ by , with both solos closing 19 October.
