Hola Ravellers!

RAVEL is jamming in Cape Town again! Zine Jam: ANALOG is 10am to 5pm on Feb 28th at Makers Massive.

The zine jams are consistently our favourite events, bringing a quiet, quirky community to collaborate and/or co-work with physical materials.

If you haven't attended before and don't know what a 'zine jam' even is - well, folk get together to assemble small experiences packaged as booklets, pamphlets, magazines, maps or anything really. They can be unique or photocopied. They can be filled with writing or drawings or collages or anything really.

This February we're leaning further into that in two ways... Number one is our theme: ANALOG. Literally 'analog' means data stored in physical qualities, but it has become the antithesis of modern progress, and maybe the antidote to modern problems. Which leads to number two: we're asking participants to turn off phones during the jam.

So bring your stationary. Bring your old magazines. Bring your friends. And jam with us.

Maker's Massive Saturday 5 July 10am to 6pm

Plan: Meet up with other weirdos and put together a physical zine. We'll break into groups depending on theme and vibes. Come ready to collaborate with other writers, illustrators, collagists, game designers, origamists, or whateverists...

Bring: Paper, stationary, art supplies, paper ephemera, your grade two journal, sweet wrappers, stolen government documents.

There will be pizzas at late lunch lovingly provided by Mirari Press, whom we love. Bring snacks for yourself or to share.

At Maker's Massive, 9 Caledon Street, Cape Town... The building that was formerly the Fugard and is now part of the Homecoming Centre.

This Wednesday Ravel returns!

We've realised there needs to be space for cross format writers to talk and learn from each other. So whether you're in Games, Theatre, Film d TV or Prose, come meet others and share your insights.

And we're also starting up HyperTalks - these are punchy 5 minute talks on anything related to writing whether craft, business, or theory. DM to give a talk.

Ravel is at 6pm to 8pm at the Maker's Massive office in the Homecoming Centre in the Cape Town CBD.
