DID YOU KNOW?🌍

The Himba people of Namibia are known for their distinctive red appearance, created by otjize. A traditional paste made from crushed red ochre and butterfat, often combined with aromatic herbs and resin.

Otjize serves several important purposes:
• Sun protection — helps protect the skin from Namibia’s harsh sun and dry climate.
• Insect protection — helps repel insects and protect the skin.
• Hygiene — provides an alternative to frequent washing in a region where water is scarce.
• Cultural identity — the red colour is deeply connected to the earth, life, beauty and Himba cultural traditions.

A beautiful example of how culture, environment and tradition are closely intertwined.
