Children are often the most honest reflection of the society in which they live. Television, tourism and larger economic forces are creating a global village from Africa to Asia. The children of these emerging regions are confronting the challenges of having one foot in the modern world, and the other in the rapidly eroding world of their own traditional cultures. These young people want more than to work the land or herd cattle; they want to go to school and become educated with a sense of identity, good health, safety and well-being. It is against this backdrop that one realizes that these children have survived in dire situations with a tenacity and resilience that never ceases to inspire one. Their courage and optimism is impressive and their enthusiasm delightful.
I often look at “Child of Hope” and to me it shows purpose, it shows beauty in a world of chaos and is a reminder that the little things in life are most precious. Never is it as apparent as through the eyes of a child.

I am the bird who stands guard over the tribe.
Our battle is in the knowing
that the feathers of the peacock
do not dispute with each other

I am suspended like fruit in the season
On the branches of my reason
If I can grow
From the desire that you show
And I aspire to be
More than the tree
Will you love and nurture me?

THE AFRICAN PORTRAIT

The African Portrait is family owned. It is very important for us to depict the people of Africa in a balanced, dignified and beautiful way which symbolizes the spirit of hardworking people in their pursuit of love and happiness. The African Portrait was established in 2004, specializing in oils on canvas and mixed media. The gallery’s main focus is portraiture and compositions celebrating Africa in all its diversity and beauty with special emphasis on the portrayal of people living simply, and existing in a manner that our modern world have forgotten. The emphasis is not only the visual beauty, but also the emotions, longings and searching which mirror similarities within us.
