Call for Artists: SERIES/FRIENDS 3:3
SERIES/FRIENDS is a collaborative group project in association with Worldart Gallery, Cape Town. The third edition of SERIES/FRIENDS will be running the weekend of 30 September - 2 October 2016 at Worldart Gallery in Cape Town.
SERIES/FRIENDS is an attempt to subvert the hierarchy of the art world, provide equal opportunity for publicity, and activate gallery spaces during their off season in a way that is not driven by profit, but rather concept and exposure. The space will be used for reflecting on the relationships between artists, friends, inspiration, and content.
Part one of the collaborative project was a video based exhibition dealing with the politics of space, time, and inter-connections. Part two, Inbedwith Series/Friends was focused on performance. Both of these instalments have seen talented artists participating and collaborating within the space. We are looking for artists/non artists/ friends/enemies to disrupt the space on the weekend of 30 September - 2 October 2016 for the last instalment of this chapter of the project.
Series/Friends 3:3 is a market space where performance, video and all other artworks by the exciting and ever growing family of collaborators is going to be available for sale or trade. Using a barter system buyers will be able to either buy the work cash, or trade the work for vouchers for non-perishable food and sanitary supplied which will be donated to local charities (TBA). The artists participating will be asked to submit work on good faith, assuming that one might not be receiving cash for the work should the buyer choose the voucher payment system. As such we invite artists to submit work that is challenging, exciting and outside of conventional gallery practise. There is space in the exhibition for performance, video and installed works. We encourage artists to experiment freely within the gallery environment and welcome collaborative work.
Submission Requirements
Submit a short proposal of
• Title
• Brief synopsis of intended artwork/performance
• If submitting a work for barter/sale please specify your preferred selling price or trade value.
• If submitting a performance please specify the preferred day and time slot between 18:00 on Friday 26th - 21:00 Sunday 28th for when you would like to perform.
Please understand that due to the barter system your work is essentially being donated. As a result of this should a buyer choose to pay cash you will receive the full amount rather than paying the gallery commission. Additionally, the work does not need to be a new work, but we are preferably looking for works that have not been exhibited before. There is no limitation on the genre or style of work for this instalment, only that the work is open to trade.

We understand the time is tight but we are hoping that this will motivate some fresh, free thoughts. We want to emphasise that this is a very experimental project and encourage collaborations.
