OPEN:
Most days about 8 or 9 am, maybe 10. Occasionally as early as 7, (but not often)
But some days as late as 1 or 2pm
CLOSED:
We close about 5.30 or 6pm,
Sometimes 2 or 3 pm
But occasionally as late as 10 or 11pm
Some days or afternoons
we aren’t here at all
But sometimes we are here
just about all the time
Except when we are somewhere else
but we should be here then too.
Some times we have
exhibitions here,
which open around 5 or 6pm
and go on until 8 or 9pm
but could be as late as 12 or 1am

I have spent 5 days at a portrait painting workshop with Elize Bezuidenhout. It’s been very inspiring. This is my work for the week. The photograph has not produced the correct colour under the fluorescent lights. But you can get the idea. I’m so excited to learn more about portraiture and figurative painting. I’m putting my head down and am determined to improve my painting in this genre. Crits welcome and I’ll post a better photograph next week. Big thanks to Lea Brunner for permission to use her photograph of fabulous daughter. Really appreciated.

My daughter is a beautiful and handy model for portraits. This is a study for a piece I painted last year called Tea for Taryn. I have always been a landscape painter but actually my first love was portraiture and figurative work. In the last three years I have been giving a bit of my studio time to doing some figurative work. I find it incredibly challenging and difficult but I love it. I’m trying to learn more about painting skin tones every day. I entered the Rust en Vrede portrait competition this year and I am so delighted and pleasantly surprised that my work has made it to the top 40 works selected. Actually I got a bit emotional when I heard the news. I’m really excited to see all the other art works and I wish the artists in the top 40 the best of luck. .
