Coming up at Azande Theatre Village

SONDA is a sharp, satirical solo performance by PHILANGEZWI “King SMS” NXUMALO that blends humor with hard-hitting social critique. In 70 minutes, the play tackles South Africa’s post-Apartheid struggles, such as unemployment, poor service delivery, crime, poverty, and politicians’ empty promises.

Through physical comedy, mime, and clowning, SONDA keeps audiences laughing while reflecting on the nation’s realities. Inspired by iconic protest works such as Woza Albert and Vuka Machel, rooted in the “poor theatre” traditions of Jerzy Grotowski and the principles of Peter Brook's The Empty Space, the show is raw, accessible, and unforgettable.

Bold, thought-provoking, and entertaining - this is theatre that will make you laugh, reflect, and rethink the world around you.

Amaxelegu cast Luxolo Ndabeni is a South African actor known for his work in television, film, and theatre. His notable roles include Zakes in Lockdown, Mthokozisi in Gomora (Season 4), Suno in 8/The Soul Collector, and the Oracle in 1802 Love Defies Time. He has also appeared in Office Invasion (2022) and Surviving Gaza (2022), and performed in Amaxelegu at the Market Theatre (2024).
