A while back I gave a talk about the art of glass casting using the ancient lost wax process. I made a few posters to help illustrate the process and this is one of them , it also shows the finished work . What isn’t shown is the complex and time consuming process of grinding and finished ! It sometimes takes months of work for one piece … it’s called slow art 😉

‘The Great Green Wall’ … one of my latest pieces on exhibition at the Glass Now-African Perspectives show gallery .
Cast glass - incorporating small fused glass tiles , signifying all the plants and shrubs that reappear when areas are reforested .
If you haven’t heard of the Great Green Wall it is the reforestation across Africa , from the West Coast to the East Coast, south of the Sahel to prevent desertification. It is a wonderful project giving hope and employment to all who live in these areas . I am hoping that it manages to continue as funding will become harder and harder in this world in such turmoil !

‘ Cradle of Humankind ‘

Cast crystal glass -gaffer and Pate de verre

15 minutes from where I am staying with my son and family is the beautiful Magaliesberg , where you will find ‘The Cradle of Humankind’ , which is an area where some of the Worlds oldest fossilised humanoids have been found . The birthplace of man . We all come from Africa , we all have the same origins , no matter the culture

‘Cradle of Humankind’ - Cast Crystal Glass

Took a drive through ‘The Cradle’ early this morning, the mist was in the air , it was so very beautiful… I love this area of Gauteng! The winter landscapes are phenomenal.

Added to my ‘Rock Pool’ series this week , put it in in Cape Town
These small bowls became a ‘thing’ to use up all the little bits of sheet glass left over from larger projects … it’s good to prevent waste on our planet
I love wandering about rock pools looking to find little creatures … they are fascinating.

Fused glass
