PLEASE NOTE - VERY IMPORTANT!
MATERIALS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Hi everyone. I know this is a bit late and I am sorry but the person that is in charge of this project seems to be very busy.
Please note that this is a project that will be situated outside. And because of that fact, the right materials have to be used. So please read the following. If you have not adhered to these requirements, your mosaic hand will unfortunately not be able to be used within the mural as it will not stand the weather and will deteriorate or even lose some tiles.
1. Please make sure that you use a waterproof glue, such as mesh it or Alcolin ULTRA wood glue. It is waterproof and obtainable in hardware stores or on Takealot. This is critical as the mosaic gets wet during installation and if you have used normal wood or craft glue, your pieces will fall off.
2. No metal embellishments as they go black and rust and are not suitable for outdoor mosaics. If you hand has metal in it, it won't be used.
3. Glitter or metallic tiles. Unfortunately, as beautiful as they are, they are not suitable for outdoors and will be grey within the year in the sun. The colour fades and goes a horrid grey colour. If your hand has glitter or metallic tiles in it, it will unfortunately not be used.
4. Paint packed or paper-backed tiles or elements. These do not last in an outdoor environment and as water seeps in, the paint / paper softens and the glass on-top falls off.
5. Painted elements of any sort. Paint peels of in rain and shine.
6. No mirror as the silver backing reacts with the elements in cement and dissolves to nothing over time.
If your hand does not confirm to the specifications, it can unfortunately not be used. Further things to make a note of. This mosaic is going into a public space. Therefore, it needs to be of a high quality because the person in charge of this mosaic Allison, and MASA by extension, will be in charge of making sure it is maintained in a good and neat order. It is therefore critical that the right materials are used to ensure the longevity of the mosaic, or it is going to start falling apart in a few years. And it is going to result in a lot of work for Allison. And as this is a donated work, there will be no payment for maintaining it. So please, lets keep to the guidelines to make things easier for her.
