Handmade by Elbé Coetsee I have a passion for natural materials and traditional skills. At times quantities may be limited.

The very tactile quality of an object created by the human hand inspires me …its imperfections and its intimacy…the luxury of handmade...hand embroidered textiles and everyday objet d'art In 1994, I established the Mogalakwena Craft Art Development Foundation to provide skills training and employment opportunities for people living the remote Blouberg area of Limpopo province. All Mogalakwena's products are designed and handmade in South Africa...by beading, embroidery, basket weaving, stitching, knitting, crochet... processes that are time consuming and mindful. We use natural materials and fibers; and recycle vintage fabrics and glass, wood, shell and seed beads. Some small imperfections in shape, size, colour and texture are part of the charm of our handmade products. "I am especially passionate about textiles and textures ...objects that are created over time …by nature and by the human hand …objects shaped and crafted in metal, clay, wood, stone and fibres, or earth formed over the ages.”

Upcoming workshop at Montebello

Our next creative stitching workshop is on the 27th of March 2025

Create your own sample book with a variety of embroidery stitches around the Moga Gallery/Shop sewing table with stitch, design and crafter, Elbe Coetsee.

It is also an ideal opportunity for those who already started their Creative Stitches books to add more delightful stitches to complete their books.

Upcoming workshop at Montebello Design Centre

We love the gentle processes of placing our experiences onto fabrics. Liesl is an artist and guide who stitches below the surface and makes visible the less obvious aspects of our stories.

Liesl is one of our exhibitors and will run a workshop this Saturday 3rd August 2024 at the Mogalakwena Research Centre at Montebello with Handmade by Elbé Coetsee

She has called the workshop : Intuitive Stories - a stitching experience with Liezl van Schalkwyk

In her words " Telling my story using intuitive ways of artmaking is at my core. Being a narrator of my life experiences and recording them through visual self expression is another essential of who I am.
Using fabric pieces, needle and thread is one of these important intuitive processes in my life at this moment. I can delve into my experiences and transform them during this process into tangible expressions.".

Materials are supplied, but you are welcome to bring your sewing kit if you have one.
