STRAND STREET CROSSING 🌼

More than 120 000 people walk St George’s Mall every day. Where it crosses Strand Street — one of the CBD’s busiest — we painted a full pedestrian crossing in Heather Moore’s daisy pattern. It’s a safety intervention that became a landmark.

The brief was practical: improve pedestrian visibility at a dangerous crossing. The design answer was anything but ordinary. Heather Moore of Skinny laMinx developed a field of cheerful daisies at street scale — a pattern legible to both pedestrians and drivers, and impossible to ignore.

Our role was ex*****on at the scale of a road. The surface is asphalt, the palette is hard-wearing exterior enamel, and the working window was a single overnight closure of Strand Street. The finished crossing is part of a broader placemaking programme by Mission for Inner City Cape Town, which is reimagining the CBD as a place locals want to be.
