blank is pleased to present ‘Dirge’, a body of new paintings by Kamva Matuis opening Saturday, 12 September.

10am - 1pm

Matuis’s painting practice moves seamlessly between depictions of the strange-cinematic, the figurative likeness, the realist scenographic, and the fast-paced crop. Expanding on his sharp dealings with light and shadow, and sustaining his signature somber palette, the artist selectively combines subjects and compositional strategies towards a gloomy articulation of black political and psychic crisis in South Africa.

blank is pleased to announce the opening of Kemang Wa Lehulere’s solo exhibition, ‘Love Letters Written in Poisonous Ink’.

Saturday, 12 September
10am - 1pm

‘Love Letters Written in Poisonous Ink’ is the artist’s third solo show with blank projects, one that continues the artist’s experimentation with transforming everyday objects into art. That is, not only to change their nature by destroying their familiarity but also to stretch their materiality itself beyond its ordinary disposition.

The group exhibition, ‘And then we’ll know’, is on view until this Wednesday, 2 September.

Titled after the closing line of Olga Tokarczuk’s ‘House of Day, House of Night’ - a passage uploaded to the artists and curator’s shared Are.na channel - the exhibition, much like the book that bears its name, draws from fragments that sometimes cohere and sometimes remain disparate.

‘And then we’ll know’ features work by Assya Agbere, Emma Belsham, Ylara Esau Salie, Hannah-Rose Fleishman, Okuhle Gubuza, Yolanda Li, and Ana-José Riley, and is curated by Ruby Barry.

It’s the last couple of days to visit Katlego C.L Twala’s solo exhibition, ‘Boswa: The shadow of my mother’, on view until 2 September.

With this body of work, Twala questions the tension between the social conditioning and the lived experiences of the matriarchs in her life.

Closing soon: Igshaan Adams, ‘Between Then and Now,’ at Mudam Luxembourg. On view until Sunday 16 August 2026.

Conceived as a woven timeline of the artist’s work, the exhibition features an array of his tapestry works and ‘cloud’ sculptures, presented alongside his dance prints, shown for the first time as a large-scale environment.

Organised by Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean and the Hepworth Wakefield in collaboration with ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum.

‘Born Twice’
Solo exhibition at Alkinois Arts Space
Athens, Greece

Comprising of a new body of sculptures, paintings, and drawings, the exhibition will be on view until 19 September.

According to the artist, “To be born twice presents the notion of dual being, of dual states of consciousness. The circle of dying and rebirth. That which we believe true and that which we generate momentarily in the liminal spaces of being and becoming, of categorisation and the borders of reality.

The word Διγενής (Digenis) relates more specifically to Βασίλειος Διγενής Ακρίτας, the legendary medieval epic hero saddling East and West in his origins and thereby being twice born of the borders as his name implies. Perhaps he is the evolution of the borderless deity Dionysus who as well as being literally born twice, had his duality dissolved beyond the East and West, to states of birth and death, segueing the realms of the underworld, physical bodies, be that of species, gender, states of consciousness or categorisation.”

Katlego C.L Twala’s solo exhibition ‘Boswa: The shadow of my mother’ is currently on view until 5 September.

“As an ode to the matriarchs who raised me, it felt necessary for them to serve as the foundation of my work. The triad of grandmother, mother, daughter became especially important, as it is the familial relationship within which I identify myself, as opposed to the conventional father, mother, daughter articulation of the family unit. This lineage of women became a way of examining inheritance, identity, and of how womanhood is carried across generations.”

‘And then we’ll know’, a group presentation of emerging practitioners, is currently on view at the gallery until 5 September.

Across film, painting, sculpture, and installation, the works enact a searching: a quest for belonging, offering ways of moving between what has been lost, what remains, and what might still become possible.
