Sometimes it’s the smallest things that touch the deepest places.

Last week, I photographed a little weaver’s nest, decorated with tiny daisies. I shared the image and my story behind it, never imagining just how much it would resonate with people.

The response was incredible. Thousands of people viewed it, so many, many shared their thoughts, and many reached out to me personally.

The story went viral and was picked up and shared by Good Things Guy South Africa.

What a reminder that small things matter.

A tiny bird.
A nest.
A few little daisies.
A moment of beauty.

And somehow, it touched something deeply human in so many of us.

Perhaps at the end of the day, beneath all the noise and complexity of life, is for us to stop and notice.

The little things are never really little. ❤️

Marlene Neumann spotted the sweetest sign of spring when one little weaver added bright yellow daisies to his nest.

Capturing what I feel and see has been a lifelong journey for me.

One of the places that is very close to my heart is the Transkei. Here, the dogs roam freely through the hills, living alongside the people and becoming part of the landscape.

I came across this beautiful boy just sitting there, quietly guarding his owner’s home.

When I photograph, it is important for me to capture more than just what the eye sees. I want to capture the energy, the spirit and the essence of what my heart sees.

AFRICANIS... a true South African dog, found throughout our rural landscapes.

There was something about this beautiful boy that made me stop. He sat with such presence, proud, watchful and completely at home in his surroundings.

To me, he carries the spirit of a guardian. Almost like a guardian angel for all dogs.

The captain of these hills. ❤️

Available in various sizes for the dog lover in your life.

A beautiful gift for someone who loves dogs as much as I do.

THE WEAVER WHO CHOSE YELLOW

Today I stopped and looked up.

And there he was.

Amongst nearly 70 nests, all hanging from the trees, all looking much the same… this little weaver had decided to do things differently.

His nest was filled with beautiful yellow flowers.

Not because he had to. Not because anyone told him to. Simply because he could.

And on this first day of spring, it felt like a beautiful message.

There has been so much devastation in our world. So much suffering, uncertainty and darkness.

And then this little bird appeared, reminding me that life is still here… creating, beginning again, bringing colour and beauty into the world.

Hope.

Yellow has always spoken to me of intuition, joy and stepping into our own personal power. And here was this tiny creature weaving it into his home with such precision and creativity.

Perhaps that is the invitation of spring…

To begin again. To look up. To notice the little miracles. To trust our intuition.

And to remember that we are not here to build our lives like everyone else.

We each have something unique to weave into this world.

A gift. A way of seeing. A way of loving. A light that belongs only to us.

So perhaps we should ask ourselves:

What is uniquely mine to weave into this world?

And then have the courage to weave it in.

Beautifully. Uniquely. And completely our own.

Because sometimes, in a world that feels so grey, all it takes is one little bird…

to remind us to bring back the yellow. 🌼

Feathers have been a part of my world since I was a little girl. I still collect them today. 🪶

Feathers have to be one of the miracles of nature.

This was one of the very first images I created, nearly 40 years ago, in the darkroom. It hangs in my private collection.

I was working with a pitch-black feather and, through a darkroom process, I was able to transform it into a white feather.

The meaning… for me… is simple.

The light will always transcend the dark… no matter what.

We have come from Source, and we will return to the Divine Source.

I have always loved this image. It sits at the very core of my work.

Birds fly because they know how to use their feathers.

This morning, I give you the gift of a white feather…🙏✨️

May it remind you that there is always light, even in the darkest of places.

Every bend I took was a new adventure.
Sometimes I could see
far ahead and sometimes not.
Either way,
I kept walking.
Life is a bit like that.
We don’t quite know what is ahead.
It is important to keep moving.

Will you join me in Kidd’s Beach?

A morning and a celebration of seeing, connecting and remembering who we truly are?

My journey with nature, life and photography, spanning more than 44 years, has taught me to trust my intuition and to truly see.

Walking Yourself Home is more than a book. It is a map filled with insights. For those who are ready, the signposts reveal themselves, reflecting something of our own journey through life.

Our time here on Earth is fleeting. Let’s take a morning to pause, connect, reflect and celebrate what it means to truly see… to connect with the God within.

I have a feeling…
we are only just beginning.

Join me next Saturday at Filia’s Place, Kidd’s Beach, for a reading, signing and thoughtful conversation.

What has happened in Nepal has touched me deeply. And I know it has touched people across the world.

It reminds us, once again, how fleeting and unexpected life can be. We wake up each morning with our plans, thinking we know what the day will bring… but Creation has its own will.

Perhaps this is a moment for us to pause. To reflect on our own lives, where we are emotionally and spiritually, and to live with greater gratitude, humility and, above all, love.

Because what affects one, affects us all. We are not separate. We are one.

My deepest condolences to everyone who has been affected, and to all those still waiting and hoping for news of loved ones.

May we hold Nepal and its people gently in our hearts. ❤️

Love Marlene
