It will be a great injustice and disrespect of the highest order if Bodibeng Music Festival does not acknowledge, with sadness, the untimely passing of Tumi Itu (Itumeleng Medupi) , affectionately known by his beloved fans as Itu ReUp.
Itu, founder of a great artistic movement , formed part of the first Bodibeng Music Festival installation for our 2022 Curated artistic program funded by the National Arts Council of South Africa under a local driven theme and agenda"Local Is Lekker". Itu was a firm believer of Botshabelo's artistic potential and staunch supporter of local talent and youth development.
At the time of his passing, Itu was in busy organizing Botshabelo Music Festival which was scheduled for December 2026, with the 1st activation commencing on Saturday, 28 February, 2026.
Itu's ill-timed passing has left not only his family and friends devasted, but the whole Free State entertainment industry in shock, pain and disbelief. As a Festival driven by the inclusion & locality mandate, we believe Itu's passing is a great loss to his family, friends, Botshabelo, the Free State, and South Africa as a whole. The festival promises to keep the memory, spirit, and legacy of Itumeleng Medupi living on in the minds of each and every he has ever touched through Music and Arts Advocacy. Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Medupi family, friends and the entire arts fraternity. We have lost a community developer and a fearless cultural and creative leader.
Rest in peace brother. You fought yours till your last breath. It was indeed your soul that touched us all. Till we meet again, and thank you for blessing Bodibeng Music Festival with your talent and kind self.
