We are delighted to introduce Motshwane Pege, the South African composer behind the newly commissioned work that will receive its world première at the upcoming Odeion String Quartet concert.

Described by Gramophone as "a fresh voice, notable for his beautifully layered textures," Pege has earned international recognition for his distinctive musical language, with awards from Ireland, Germany, the USA, and South Korea. His works have been performed by professional and academic ensembles across Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.

Drawing on his background as both a composer and orchestral percussionist, Pege's music is known for its rhythmic vitality, rich harmonic language, and beautifully crafted textures. His newest work, commissioned by the Mzansi Chamber Music Collective, promises to add a compelling contemporary South African voice to a programme that also features music by Beethoven and Arthur Feder.

Praised for her artistry as both a soloist and chamber musician, violinist Samantha Durrant has performed with leading orchestras including the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.

A prize-winning performer with appearances at many of South Africa's foremost chamber music festivals, Samantha is equally passionate about nurturing the next generation of musicians through teaching and masterclasses. She currently performs with the Odeion String Quartet, South Africa's only resident string quartet.
