Our director Tumi Riet was invited to share a presentation about Bantu Tales: and how it came about out to the learners of Rekgonne Primary School, in Weigandia.

When asked us to come along with them to visit the school as they decentre the arts in honour of Madiba Day, all we could say is…. YESS!!!

The kids painted for 67 minutes and so much creativity oozed! They learned some vocal warms for when they have to do speeches in front of their class. They were also very entertained and inspired about the story of a little girl named Happiness.

A huge thank you to and the rest of the team for making this such a joyful and happy day!

In the fight towards systemic and economic regulation of our arts industry, it is becoming more important to reposition the distribution of art.

We need to start thinking about creating for audiences that are not its immediate reception and to ask ourselves probing questions about ways we can do that.

Here are some questions to consider:

1. Who do I have in mind when I create?
2. Who will benefit more from receiving my art?
3. How can my art reach its relevant audience?
4. Who can I collaborate with in reaching my audience?

Decentralising art looks different for all creatives. For us it looks like taking storytelling back to our black communities and neighbourhoods. We want to bring back the culture of the youth telling stories to their neighbours and families by creating alternative spaces of recreation and knowledge production.

Artists are agents of social agent.
An artist is a vessel for socio-political transformation.
An artist is someone who is deliberate and steadfast with what they want to say and do with their unique artistic voice.

Our mission has been clear from day one - it is to DECENTRALISE THE ARTS!

16 December 2023 was an eventful day filled with artistic excitement and creativity from the youth of Phelindaba

Three theatrical stories were staged all themed "IT BEGINS AT HOME" 🏡 🔥🎭 and alongside these were amazing performances by the local artists of Phelindaba ranging from rap, guitarists and poets.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude for all those that have shown support to our project - by liking our posts, sharing our reels, buying tickets and all the words of support shared by our online community. It all really goes a long way.
