Mangaung Visual Arts Showcase

Mangaung Visual Arts Showcase Bloemfontein will come alive with possibilities with the inaugural Mangaung Art Fair. This is an experience to treasure for the entire family unit.

This platform will be an artist - centred exhibition and showcase of local and International Art. With Bloemfontein being at the heart of our beloved country, South Africa, this Arts showcase will endeavour to represent the many cultures and languages that have descended in the Free State. Mangaung Art Fair 2018 will fuse the historical narratives present in this city as well as the Contemporary S

outh African Art scene. A first of many, however an integral and necessary event of the year in Bloemfontein.

Dumelang!

Due to some changes from the recent elections, we have had to combine our first iteration with our second iteration to further push our vision to put the artist, first. Meaning we will have two iterations in one. We are super excited to announce our artists and we will be putting up all details to get your tickets soon!

For now, note that the 1st iteration is moved to the 4th to the 7th of July 2019.

Who can apply for an exhibition?
All artists and curators interested in having a solo or group exhibition at the AVA are invited to submit a proposal.

When will the selection be announced?
All proposals will be reviewed by the selection committee and the exhibition programme will be announced in September.

What are the costs associated with exhibiting at the AVA?
Most exhibitions at the AVA run for four weeks. If your exhibition is selected as part of AVA’s programme, the following gallery rental costs apply:

Main Gallery: R6,000
Long Gallery: R4,500
Mezzanine Gallery: R3,500
New Media Room: R1,500

These costs are all-in exhibition costs, but exclude all art work production, framing and transport costs.

What is ArtReach?
An important mandate for nurturing the arts, creativity and talent, the ArtReach programme was initiated in the late 1980s. Over the years it has funded a broad spectrum of artists’ needs and launched several emerging artists who have gone on to achieve success.

Who can apply for ArtReach?
All artists and curators, living and working in South Africa.

What will ArtReach funds cover?
ArtReach funds can be applied for the following
- gallery rental for an exhibition at AVA.
- studio rental to a maximum of 6 months to a limited budget.
- art materials.

What isn't covered
As the fund resources are limited, we regret that ArtReach does not support the purchase of any tools or equipment, framing, course fees for learners or workshops, the hiring of photographers or printing of brochures, posters or invitations.

How much can I apply for?
The intention is to support a diversity of applicants, which is why there is a specified list and maximum budget per line item stipulated on the application form.
