A young fruit bat named Stellaluna’s life changes forever when she is separated from her mother during a scary owl attack. Stellaluna has a hard time fitting in with a family of birds that take her in. This new world feels very different from her own. With courage, friendship, and getting to know herself, she learns that what makes us different is what makes us special, and that love and belonging can be found in the strangest places.

Stellaluna is a magical show that celebrates friendship, family, acceptance, and having the courage to be yourself. It has beautiful stories, music, comedy, and creative theatre. This unforgettable journey is great for people of all ages. It will make kids happy and touch adults’ hearts. The play is suitable for children from the age of 3.

International Collaboration Returns to the University of the Free State
Following the highly successful staging of Carousel (Rodgers & Hammerstein) in 2024, the international collaboration between Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas, the Odeion School of Music (OSM), and the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of the Free State returns to the Bloemfontein campus with a production of the iconic musical West Side Story.

The production will be presented at the Wynand Mouton Theatre on the UFS Bloemfontein Campus from 18–21 June 2026.

This ambitious production is directed by Dr Thys Heydenrych, with Prof. Barbara Hill Moore as Music Director and Dr Albertus Engelbrecht as Associate Music Director. The production will be accompanied by the Free State Youth Orchestra, conducted by Dingaan Chabalala.

The 2026 production at the University of the Free State continues a rich tradition of international artistic collaboration and promises audiences an unforgettable theatrical experience showcasing the talents of students, faculty members, and young musicians from both South Africa and the United States.
