This clip tells you everything about Africa. The sorrow of a beautiful continent.

As we drive through cities such as Johannesburg, as we often do to seek inspiration, we come across major companies, many of them owned by other races. Some are billion rand businesses that started operating only 10 or so years ago.

Take the story of Kim Reid, who started Takealot in 2011. Today, it is a billion dollar business.

SYSTEM!
Meanwhile, in our townships, many of us started our businesses 20 or 30 years ago, yet we are still classified as SMMEs. And somehow, this is celebrated.

We have the ideas.
We have the manpower.
We have the knowledge.
We have the talent.
Sadly all this ends in a bin.

As the President say, “Money is not the problem in Africa.”

What are we going to do about it. NOTHING!!

@ Basotho Cultural Village, Qwaqwa on 01 August 2026 for Basotho New Year's Celebration.

We work with an extremely dedicated team of hardworking young people to deliver setups and productions of this standard.

This event created more than 25 job opportunities, including employment for young people and opportunities for logistics companies.

We have run numerous youth and children's activities and programmes with the aim of helping to shape them for a better tomorrow. But what is the point of these initiatives if young people are still being subjected to practices such as these in the name of culture?

The next thing, these young lives may be dropping out of school, smoking dagga, using nyaope, and drowning in alcohol. We are told that it costs around R2,500 per child for initiation.

This is 2026. Someone has to put a stop to this practices but question is who has the responsibility to act?

These are 11-year old boys and girls who should be focusing on their education, developing their talents, and building a better future for themselves.

Are these types of training programmes offered in Dihlabeng / Thabo Mofutsanyana District? If they are, how often are they available?

These are the kinds of educational and skills-development programmes we need to see more often on our television screens, instead of this useless programs aired on Mzansi Magic (for instance).

The need for change is urgent. We are dealing with a structural problem that cannot be solved through this approach. Communities need greater access to practical knowledge, entrepreneurship, agriculture, financial literacy, technical skills, and business development opportunities.

We know a number of entrepreneurs are trying out there, with the little support. Keep going.

This model is not sustainable and has created dependency for far too long. With the pull of a single plug, the most vulnerable members of our society could find themselves in severe poverty.

How we wish we could work alongside economists for guidance.

Without discrediting our efforts, the truth is that our salons, tuck shops, nightclubs, taverns, car washes, and similar businesses are often temporary solutions. While they create income and employment, they do not, on their own, address our longterm economic challenges or provide sustainable growth.
