Recently, The Gallery was transformed into an intimate dining experience, as guests gathered amongst the artworks of Taking Flight for a five-course food and wine pairing with Private Chef Ballito, Caetlin Potgieter, and Great Heart Wines.

Beautiful food, exceptional wine, meaningful conversation and art all came together to create a truly memorable evening.

We are continually reminded that The Gallery is about so much more than what hangs on the walls. It is a place where creativity brings people together, where stories are shared and where memorable experiences are made.

The swallow carries immense symbolic weight in southern African story-telling. In both Sotho and Zulu traditions, the arrival of swallows is often associated with renewal, rain, fertility, seasonal change, and the return of life-giving abundance. At its heart, the sculpture is about faith in cycles larger than ourselves. It honours the ancient understanding that nature speaks, that seasons carry meaning, and that even the smallest bird can become a bearer of hope.

Inspired by the annual migration of barn swallows from the shores of Ballito to distant regions across the globe, Taking Flight explores the many ways movement shapes our lives.

Through a collection of works centred on themes of transition, displacement and belonging, the exhibition reflects on the journeys people undertake in search of safety, opportunity, family and new beginnings. It invites us to consider not only the act of departure, but the resilience, uncertainty and hope found along the way.

Officially launching on 4 June and running until 2 August 2026, Taking Flight is an invitation to engage with stories of movement, connection and humanity through art.
