What a note to remember… 🎶

This past weekend, the Boland Chamber Choir took part in a truly enriching choral journey at the ATKV-SuidOosterfees competition in Cape Town. Standing on that stage was more than just a performance, it was a moment of growth, courage, and musical storytelling.

We did not just sing, we listened, we learned, and we grew.

Our choristers experienced the importance of discipline behind every harmony and discovered new depth in blending their voices as one. They began to understand what it truly means to perform with intention, not just sound. Each moment on that stage contributed to their development, both as individuals and as a united choir.

One of the most exciting highlights for our children was finally seeing the Stellenbosch University Choir perform live. They were completely blown away by the richness, precision, and power of the sound. The excitement was undeniable, and for many of them, it sparked a deeper desire to reach that level of excellence one day.

We were also privileged to receive valuable feedback from the adjudicators. Their insights and guidance have given us a clearer understanding of where we are and where we need to go, and this will play a vital role in helping us refine and strengthen our craft moving forward.

Every note we sang carried the effort of rehearsals, the nerves of the moment, and the passion we have for music. This experience has sharpened our vision and strengthened our hunger to grow even further.

To our incredible parents, this journey was possible because of you. Your commitment, your sacrifices, and your constant support ensured that each child could attend, participate, and experience something truly meaningful. We are deeply grateful for everything you do.

This is not the end of the song, it is only the beginning of a stronger and more beautiful journey ahead.

We are proud to share that the Boland Chamber Choir has been selected to take part in the ATKV Suidoosterfees Choir Competition at ArtsCape. This is more than just a performance; it is a powerful competition that will offer us growth, exposure, and a chance to represent our community on a prestigious stage.

To make this journey possible, we are kindly asking for assistance with:
• Transport to and from ArtsCape
• Catering for 30 choir members for the day

Your support will not only help us get to the stage but will also contribute to each singer’s confidence, development, and future opportunities. Many of our members come from backgrounds where such chances are rare, and this competition can be a turning point.

What unfolded in McGregor was more than just a concert - it was a meeting of excellence, passion, and shared purpose.

The Boland Chamber Choir had the profound honour of sharing a stage with the world-renowned Cape Town Camerata - a moment we once only imagined, now a beautiful reality.
To stand alongside one of the finest choirs in South Africa was not only inspiring, but deeply affirming. It challenged us, refined us, and reminded us of the standard of excellence we continue to strive for. Every note sung, every harmony built, carried lessons, growth, and a renewed sense of purpose.

This experience has strengthened more than just our musicality - it has built a meaningful relationship rooted in respect, artistry, and unity. For our singers, especially the young voices, this was a moment of exposure, learning, and belief… belief that they too belong on stages of this calibre.

This past Saturday, two of our Boland Chamber Choir voices, Eyakhe Maqoma and Achumile Sulani, became part of a beautiful and meaningful harmony through a powerful programme hosted by Rural Women’s Assembly (RWA) in collaboration with Healing The Hood.

The initiative focused on empowering young people and nurturing healing within our community — a melody that resonates deeply with the values we stand for as a choir. Through the fusion of art, music, and drama, the workshop created a safe and vibrant platform where young voices could rise, be heard, and connect with one another through creative expression.

The performances and artistic engagements were not only inspiring but also courageous, as they confronted pressing societal challenges such as gender-based violence and climate justice. These themes are often difficult to address, yet through the language of art and performance, they were transformed into messages of awareness, resilience, and hope. It is within these spaces that young people learn that their voices carry power, their stories matter, and their talents can become instruments of change.
As Boland Chamber Choir, we believe music is more than sound — it is a vessel for storytelling, healing, education, and unity. Opportunities like these allow our members to grow not only as performers but as socially conscious individuals who understand the role of the arts in shaping a compassionate and informed society.

The Boland Chamber Choir is delighted to host the renowned Cape Town Camerata, one of South Africa’s premier choral ensembles. The Camerata is celebrated for its diverse, vibrant sound and commitment to musical excellence, having performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and Yale and Harvard Universities. They've garnered international acclaim, winning the 2024 World Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Spain and the 2025 William Byrd Prize in Australia.

We were honoured to be invited by Pastor Glenton Jansen to minister through song at his church. Being entrusted to open the service with the National Anthem was a profound and sacred mandate. It was a powerful scene to witness congregants not praying for personal gain, but lifting every citizen of South Africa before God as one nation. To stand under spiritual authority and lead such a solemn and unifying moment through music is something we carry with deep gratitude and humility.

Last night reminded us that music is not only sound, but service — a spiritual offering that unites hearts, voices, and faith. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve, to grow, and to be vessels through which worship and harmony flow. As we step into this year, we are excited for the many enriching, challenging, and uplifting musical and spiritual experiences that await us. This is only the beginning of a beautiful journey ahead.
