There is great excitement around a new Eastern Cape festival which celebrates the arrival of spring with a weekend of delicious food, magnificent wines and great jazz in the countryside. The Jazzy, Boozy, Cheesy (JBC) Affaire will be hosted at the newly refurbished Africanos Country Estate outside Addo in the picturesque Sundays River Valley over the weekend of September 26 and 27.
“We will be cel
ebrating the rich food, wine and musical heritage of the Eastern Cape – with some of the best Western Cape wines coming to the party as well,” says organiser Jenni Honsbein. Award-winning chefs from the Eastern Cape will be providing a variety of freshly cooked dishes with local and international roots. “Our chefs will be bringing fine dining with an African twist to the Eastern Cape,” she says. They will be complemented by select boutique wines from both the Eastern and Western Cape. “The JBC Affaire will provide a showcase for the exciting new Eastern Cape wine producers,” she says. Top musicians from the province will be filling the halls and passages with “great jazz. The Eastern Cape, after all, claims to be the home of African jazz. Its roots can be traced to Queenstown, which in the 1920’s was known as ‘Little Jazz Town’ because of the number of resident New Orleans-style bands at the time,” says Honsbein.
“We are also, of course, the home to fine coffee roasters and innovative craft beer brewers. It will all come together at the JBC Affaire, which judging by the enthusiastic response to the concept will become an annual event”. Special accommodation packages will be available from Africanos and other guest houses and boutique hotels in the Sundays River Valley.
