Alex Ceppi is a multidisciplinary artist based in the United States whose practice spans architecture, film direction and production, writing, and painting. Though his work as a painter is expressionistic in nature, it moves beyond conventional or archetypal boundaries, exploring transformative themes such as loss, displacement, resilience, and identity.
Drawing from his background in architecture, Ceppi integrates his training in drawing and structural composition into his canvases. The incorporation of ink into the painted surface introduces additional layers of depth, character, and visual intensity, while also revealing fleeting details designed to draw the viewer closer. For Ceppi, intimacy is central: “It’s all about intimacy,” he explains. “The subjects in my paintings are all attempting to share something personal.” His work invites close observation, encouraging a dialogue between artwork and viewer.
Ceppi’s most recent body of work was inspired by the profound human impact of failed immigration policies and the global crisis of displacement. The suffering experienced by migrants and refugees exceeds what language can adequately convey, making painting the most powerful medium for expression. Through his art, he addresses not only immigration, but also broader sociopolitical concerns including gun violence and human rights.
The year 2026 marks a significant chapter in his career. Following exhibitions at the Bendheim Gallery in Greenwich, Connecticut, and at the Palacete Gomes de Freire in Lisbon, Ceppi has been invited to participate in an international exhibition tour spanning the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Brazil, and Venezuela, before continuing through Europe and Africa and concluding in Dubai. His new series, exploring the current sociopolitical landscape of his native Venezuela, will be permanently exhibited in Los Angeles and Monte Carlo, further establishing his presence in the contemporary art world.
